After four months of training, George Houghton ran in his third Army Ten Miler Race in Washington, DC on Sunday, October 4. For the first time, Matt Houghton was able to run with his Dad. The weather was beautiful, 50 – 60 degrees with a huge field of 30,000 runners. The course was a ten mile loop from the Pentagon to the Capitol. Matt finished with a time of 1:25 and George finished with a time of 1:59. The Captain Andrew R. Houghton Foundation received over $4,200 in donations in connection with George’s running in this event and the foundation will match these funds and be able to provide over $8,400 in funding to the charities it supports.
I wish I had words to offer that would bring healing for Andy and comfort for his family - but my mind just keeps thinking of Psalm 20:7 'Some nations boast of their armies and weapons, but we boast in the Lord our God.' Andy, thank you for your service - thank you for your sacrifice. There is a country of men, women, and children who now have a chance to know the word Freedom because you brought them HOPE. My prayers will be for you tonight, Andy. Hoo-rah! To Andy's family and friends - all my respect.
